About Me

Hello fellow students.  My name is Troy Fifield and I am a teacher at a Junior High.  This is my first time in a classroom and I am teaching Digital Media.  In the past I have coached soccer development for 10,13,18.
I currently live a Los Banos, CA with my wife and our three kids.  Chase, Drake and Bailey ages from 10,8 and Bailey is 3.  Excited for the new chapter in my life and trying to raise a girl, which so far is much different than my two boys.  We are active in Basketball, Soccer, Baseball and maybe guitar.  Chase is still deciding whether he wants to be a "rock star" or an expert "Fortnite" player.  My wife and I are trying to convince him of the rock star career.
Growing up on Star Wars, I was fascinated with Special Effects and minatures in the movies.  I wish I had the opportunity to attend USC film school but that was not in my parents financial plan..LOL!  My undergrad degree was in Video/Film Art from CSU Northridge where I learned software from VERY updated tools.  Hence, 18 years later I am not doing VFX but teaching Digital Media to Junior High students.

How did your personality affect your choice of content area?

I am heavily leaning to the  Extroversion rather than Introversion.  Extroversion involves interacting with people, taking an interest in broad topics, and tending to act first then think.  I also have a knack for creativity.  These traits have sorted me out to the teaching career and Digital Media.  I enjoy working on computers and designing.  With Digital Media and Graphic Design, I get to do both.

How will your teaching and learning style affect your teaching and your students' abilities to be successful?

My Digital Media class for the first 2 months has been very eye opening.  Before school started I was thinking of something completely different than how the classes turned out.  I am understanding more and more each day that an active classroom is what my students need.  I am very visual in my teaching as this is new software for the students. I begin every class with a demonstration and move into guided practice with a partner.  I ask the students to be intuitive and come up with their own answers.  This is how I learn and this is how I have been teaching for the past 2 months.
